ELOHYMNS | No. 9

Music is often a big part of how we express our gratitude, adoration and praise to God. Elohymns is designed to help parents connect with their kids in a fun way to establish regular rhythms of praise and worship at home. We recognize that everyone connects with God in different ways. The devotions and playlist below are intended to help you and your kids explore diverse ways to worship God together.

Give a little kindness

Orange Kids Music

Read Ephesians 4:29

Sometimes we forget how important our words are and how much they can affect someone else. Here’s the thing, God puts us on Earth to point everyone to Him. When we use our words wisely, everyone around us has a better chance of feeling His love and knowing Him! We have a responsibility to show everyone the love of Jesus through our powerful words of kindness and love.

Remember that hateful or curse words are not the only evil or mean words. Mean words can include complaining, gossiping, or disrespect, and these kinds of words can all be destructive. When is it hardest for you to use kind words? What can you do this week to respond in a way that points people to God?

goD is for us

Amber Sky Records (ft. Mark Gibson & Clarissa Gibson)

Read Romans 6:11

Thanks to Jesus Christ’s death on the cross sin is powerless and it will not shake us! No matter what, God is for us and He will stick close to us when times get hard. When it feels like there is nothing you can do to fix a problem, God remains by your side as you go through it. He will be there at any time, day or night. He listens to you because He loves you. There is nothing you can do that will make Him turn His back on you because all sin is powerless with God.

Knowing that God is for us is wonderful isn’t it? When troubles come your way, you will not be alone. Even though He knows our troubles, God feels closer when we tell Him what we are experiencing. Write a letter or draw a picture to God describing your current problems and ask God to show you that he is near you and for you.

Who You Say I Am

Hillsong Worship

This song says “I am who You say I am”, because we are who God believes we are and no one else. Despite what others might say about us or even how we feel about ourselves, what God has to say about us is the most important and true description we have of ourselves. He knows us better than anyone because He made us!

Let’s look at some declarations scripture makes over you:

I am God’s workmanship, created in Christ unto good works (Ephesians 2:10)

I am an ambassador for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20)

I am part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation (1 Peter 2:9)

I am greatly loved by God  (Romans 1:7; Ephesians 2:4; Colossians 3:12; Thessalonians 1:4)

You are chosen by a God who loves you so much. He is for you and never against you. Pick one of the declarations from above and write it down (or draw it out) and post it somewhere where you will see it every day this week. Listen to this song at the end of a bad day and remember that you are who God says you are!

Glorious Day

Passion, Kristian Stanfill

Read John 11:40-44

One of the lines in this song says “You called my name, and I ran out of that grave!”. Just like Jesus brought Lazarus back from the dead in John 11, He can do the same for you. We often hear words in songs and scripture talking about Jesus bringing us “out of the grave” our “out of the darkness”. When we hear this, it does not always mean that we physically die and Jesus brings us back or that we are stuck in a dark room. These kinds of words represent shame, embarrassment, pain or anything that is not life-giving.

Think about what you may be struggling with and say it out loud in a prayer asking Jesus to bring you out of that grave. As you listen to this song shout out the line “You called my name, and I ran out of that grave!” declaring that Jesus knows your name and your struggles and He will help you through them.
